League of Women Voters of the Pinebelt, Inc. - Provisional Unit

The Pinebelt unit was formed in March 2016 in Hattiesburg to serve the city and surrounding areas -the counties of Covington, Forrest, Jasper, Jefferson Davis, Jones, Lamar, Marion, Smith, Simpson, Pearl River and Stone. The active chapter keeps busy with voter registration drives and other events. Their goals are to improve our government and engage all citizens in the decisions that impact their lives.

LEAGUE OF WOMEN PINE BELT EVENTS: MAY, JUNE, JULY, AUGUST 2017

MONTHLY MEETINGS: LEAGUE MEETINGS ALTERNATE WITH A PUBLIC MEETING WITH A SPEAKER REGARDING LEAGUE ISSUES. THERE IS A MONTHLY EXECUTIVE MEETING.

MAY 2017

May 4, 2017- The LWVPB had a Voter Registration in Downtown Farmer's Market, Forrest County, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The LWVPB engaged the public on the LWVPB and conducted a Voter Registration.

May 20, 2017 + The LWVPB attended the League of Women Voters Mississippi Annual meeting in which the LWVPB received the Katherine Rea award for outstanding work in growing the League.

May 24, 2017 + The LWVPB held a debate for the Mayoral Candidates in Hattiesburg. It was televised by the local television station. Peg Ciraldo, President of the LWVPB was interviewed by the station and the debate is on the LWVPB website. The three Mayoral candidates were given time for opening and closing remarks. They had an opportunity to answer questions prepared by the LWVPB and to respond to the other candidates' remarks.

JUNE 2017

June 6, 2017 + Executive meeting at 10:00 a.m. to discuss the League events in the upcoming month. Efforts are continued on debates in the future in the Pine Belt being conducted by the LWVPB. There were also discussions on the LWVPB Voter Registration Drives.

June 8, 2017 - The LWVPB had a Voter Registration at Downtown Farmer's Market, Forrest County from 3:00 + 5:00 p.m. The LWVPB engage the public on the League of Women Voters Pine Belt and conducted a Voter Registration.

June 20, 2017 + The LWVPB met in Jones County with the Mississippi Humanities Council regarding funding of League of Women Voters Pine Belt events. The Council had suggestions for the applications of funding for future LWVPB events.

June 26, 2017 + The LWVPB had their monthly League meeting in Forrest County to form committees in the Pine Belt to pursue the three issues of: Voter Registration and Education; To Get Out the Vote and Education in the Pine Belt. Each committee will work on having individual committee meetings and speakers and research regarding each of their areas. In the following months there will be also joint meetings regarding the issues that are being researched.

June 29, 2017 + The LWVPB had a Voter Registration in Downtown Market, Forrest, County, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The LWVPB engaged the public on the LWVPB and conducted a Voter Registration.

June 30, 2017 + Meeting with Parenting Campaign to discuss plans and efforts to accomplish League issues in the Pine Belt. The Parenting Campaign has offered to attend League meetings in the Pine Belt to help educate and assist in any of the League's interest.

July 2017

July 5, 2017 + The LWVPB attend Forrest County City Council Meeting to review new agendas for the county. The LWVPB is interested in the education issues of the Pine Belt and several were discussed at this Council Meeting.

July 6, 2017 + The LWVPB had a Voter Registration at Downtown Farmer's Market, Forrest County from 3:00 + 5:00 p.m. The LWVPB engaged the public on the LWVPB and conducted a Voter Registration.

July 13, 2017 + The LWVPB had a Voter Registration at Downtown Farmer's Market, Forrest County, from 3:00 + 5:00 p.m. The LWVPB engaged the public on LWVPB and conducted a Voter Registration.

July 14, 2017 + The Officers of the LWVPB had an Officer Meeting in Forrest County to discuss upcoming July and August Monthly Meeting and future LWVPB events.

July 20, 2017 + The LWVPB had a Voter Registration at Downtown Farmer's Market, Forrest County from 3:00 = 5:00 p.m. The LWVPB engaged the public on LWVPB and conducted a Voter Registration.

July 31, 2017 + The LWVPB public meeting will have the new Mayor Toby Barker of Hattiesburg speak regarding the issues of Hattiesburg and the Pine Belt. Local newspapers and radio stations have been notified. It will take place at the Jackie Dole Sherrill Community Center, 220 W. Front Street, Hattiesburg.

University of Southern Mississippi State Legislator Candidate Debate. The LWVPB will co-sponsor with the University of Southern Mississippi the debate among the state legislator candidates running for office.

Hattiesburg Public Library Monthly Meeting. There will be an update and discussion regarding the three committees on Voter Registration; Voter Participation and Education. The public is welcome to attend.
