Who?
Keynote Speaker
This year, our special guest is Peggy Hill, Mississippi's liaison with LWV of the United States. You may have met Peggy during her previous visit where she provided an excellent presentation on the National Study of the Role of the Federal Government in Public Education, which she chaired! Dr. Hill, a member of the League of Women Voters since 1973, has served the LWV in many capacities at the national level and at the state level in Texas, including being a director for LWVUS, a trustee of the LWV Education Fund, and serving on committees for Development, Communications, and Meetings & Training. In her professional life as an educator, Dr. Hill chaired the University of Houston-Clear Lake Language and Literacy Department, has served in many leadership and service roles in state and national education professional associations, and has been published widely in scholarly journals.
This is a great opportunity to meet our liaison with our National League!
Jeanni Atkins is an Associate Professor in Journalism at the University of Mississippi where she also serves as the Executive Director of the Mississippi Center for Freedom of Information. MCFOI is a non-profit coalition, based at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, with the mission of furthering government transparency and educating citizens about how to exercise their right to know about government information.

Special Happenings
League Storybank
What better way to share the benefits of League membership than with our stories? The LWVUS Storybank was developed to collect and share wonderful stories of personal growth, achievement, leadership, and friendship from League members across the country. We will be recording short videos of members' stories throughout the Convention in our Story Corner.
To begin, ask yourself these question,
- Why am I a member of League of Women Voters?
- What motivated me to join the League of Women Voters?
- What does being a League of Women Voters member mean to me?
- How has my work with the League impacted my community?
- How has being a member given me skills and knowledge that has enhanced my career and life?
Remember that every story is powerful. You do not have to demonstrate some big achievement or give your resume. Instead, let your passion for League showcase itself!
Silent Auction
Do you have a favorite restaurant or local attraction? Know a business manager or owner? Ask now for a gift certificate. Maybe you have season tickets for a lecture series or performances, and are unable to attend a date. All those + and more- would be perfect for the Silent Auction. The auction is a significant fund-raiser for the LWV of Mississippi. Please help make it a successful one! Email Gene with your treasure at everittg@bellsouth.net or bring the gift certificate to Council.
