Social Policy: Child Abuse

The League supports equal rights and equal opportunity for all. The League promotes social and economic justice and the health and safety of all Americans.

The League supports the prevention of adult and child abuse as well as quality care for victims. The League also:

  • Supports a behavioral science degree requirement for child protective service workers and training for professionals such as educators and law enforcement officials in recognizing child abuse.

  • Supports an enforcement of a recommended maximum caseload per worker and case management coordination among agencies dealing with child abuse.

  • Supports admission of videotaped testimony by children in court proceedings and that treatment for perpetrators be court-ordered, with strict enforcement provisions.

  • Supports sexual abuse awareness and prevention as a part of safety program in schools, and establishing a Children's Trust Fund to provide financial resources for prevention and treatment of child abuse.
